The Steamrollers at Universal Studios

Universal 2013

I escaped the cold Nebraska weather for a few days this December while playing with Mannheim Steamroller at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. This is such a fun gig. We play some of Chip’s popular holiday song arrangements, as well as music from his album “Christmasville,” which contains music he arranged for the Universal Studios Orlando Grinchmas production. Chip himself conducts the show, and takes time to speak to the audience about how the show came to be.

The show runs every Saturday and Sunday evening in December prior to Christmas. If you (or someone you know) lives near Orlando, or will be down that way next holiday season, be sure to come see us perform inside the Universal Studios theme park at the outdoor pavilion following the holiday parade.

Happy Holidays!

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2013

MS Macys

I was honored to join Mannheim Steamroller at the Macy’s Day Parade this year in New York City on Thanksgiving morning. It was pretty cold and windy this year, but thousands of people lined the streets to watch the floats, giant balloons and marching bands go by. I love returning to New York City, especially to be a part of such an iconic holiday tradition with the Steamrollers. I am filled with gratitude for such an opportunity!

Pandora Holiday Moments on Ice TV Show

Ice Keys View

Hi Friends,

I took an online hiatus after my site launched this summer, but it’s good to be back! I have many fun musical projects going on this holiday season, and I look forward to sharing them with you here on my blog.

I am grateful to have been asked to play with Mannheim Steamroller again this winter. Rehearsals started the first weekend in November, in preparation for a show we filmed in Jacksonville, Florida. The PANDORA HOLIDAY MOMENTS ON ICE show will air on national television on Sunday, December 1st (the Sunday after Thanksgiving) at 3pm central time.

Rehearsal for the Pandora Holiday Moments on Ice Show. Air date Sunday, December 1st on NBC.

The “Ice Show,” as we refer to it, was filmed in front of a live audience at the Jacksonville Arena on November 9th. Figure skaters, including Olympians Brian Boitano, Michael Weiss and Kimmie Meissner, skated to the music of Mannheim, AND, special guest and country music star MARTINA McBRIDE joined us for a few songs as well. KRISTI YAMAGUCHI hosted the show, alongside Mannheim Steamroller founder, CHIP DAVIS.

Arnie Roth (violin/conductor), Glen Smith (guitar/bass), Kristi Yamaguchi (hostess), Chip Davis (host), Roxanne Layton (recorders/percussion), Tom Sharpe (drums/percussion), Karly Jurgensen (keyboard/harpsichord), John Baslucci (piano/keyboard).

This year’s show included some of my favorite holiday arrangements, made famous by Mannheim Steamroller. It also featured aerial skating, which is truly incredible to watch. I had a hard time focusing on my music during rehearsal because I just wanted to watch the skaters flying through the air! And of course, the beautiful voice of Martina McBride.

So Mark your calendar for Sunday, December 1st, 2013 at 3pm (CST) on NBC. You won’t want to miss this show!

** Also coming up… Tune into NBC on Thanksgiving Day to watch Mannheim Steamroller on a float at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! Follow me on Instagram (karlynjurgy), Facebook (Karlyn Music) or Twitter (@KarlyJurgensen) for up-to-the-minute updates!

Live Music at Yoga Rocks the Park!

Yoga Rocks the Park OMaha

I was beyond excited to have been asked to provide music at Yoga Rocks the Park last Sunday. For a long time, I have been looking for a way to merge my love for yoga and my passion for music, so this day was truly magical for me. Nearly 500 yogis came out to Turner Park to enjoy the beautiful sunshine and the wonderful teaching styles of Alison Tigges and Liz Hagastad. It was the PERFECT day for yoga in the park!

Thank you to Lora Haase at Lotus House of Yoga, who brought YRTP to Omaha a few years ago, for inviting me to perform. And Thank You to my bandmates JB Ferguson (percussion) and Mike Frederichson (upright bass), who rocked as well!

Yoga Rocks the Park happens every Sunday in OMaha this summer until July 14th. Local teachers lead an all-levels class outdoors in the beautiful park while the sun shines and music is played. There is even a place for kids to practice, so the whole family can attend! Bring your own yoga mat, and plan to arrive around 3:30 for registration.

Stay tuned for details regarding my next CD – a collection of yoga inspired tunes that even non-yogis can enjoy.

Namaste, ya’ll!
